Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers will sign a deal that will make him the highest-paid player in NFL history. This should likely allow him to pay off a debt, according to Packers teammate Davante Adams.
Rodgers agreed to a four-year contract extension that worth $134 million with $100 million guaranteed on Wednesday. The 34-year-old Super Bowl XLV MVP will make an average of $33.5 million annually over the span of the deal, which could reach as high as $180 million.
Soon after word of the deal landed, Adams was quick to tweet about his teammates newfound wealth:
During ’16 (the year in question), Rodgers made $12.6 million. That was three years removed from him making a whopping $38 million.
The best part of this is there was no “LOL” or smiley face emoticon behind it, which is among my standards for “in real life” versus “social media clowning”.
Did Adams cover a dinner for Rodgers? A bar tab? A club tab? A golf tab? A fee to sign into Draft Kings?
Inquiring minds need to know, Davante.
